TY - Generic T1 - Work accomplished to date by the advisory committee on weather control T2 - 24th Annual Western Snow Conference Y1 - 1956 A1 - Orville, H.T. KW - Evaluation, Weather modification AB - This second report by the Advisory Committee on Weather Control, (first report see WSC No. 266-54), points out two striking incidences in weather modification: (1) snowpack increase by seeding operations in mountainous areas of the West during favorable weather conditions, and increases in precipitation of 9% to 17%. (2) Suppression of lightning and forest fires and also hail storms by the use of cloud seeding operations covering seven Western states. Such success is shown to be of economic benefit to hydro power development, agriculture and other multiple water use projects.A long time evaluation program has been set in motion by enlisting the assistance of commercial cloud seeding operators. Committeemen are making on the spot evaluation by contacting farmers, ranchers, fruit growers, and municipal water officials to gather evidence for or against cloud seeding.
