TY - Generic T1 - Maximum snow depths and snow loads on roofs in Canada T2 - 29th Annual Western Snow Conference Y1 - 1961 A1 - Boyd, D.W. KW - Snow cover accumulation, Snow loads AB - Tabulations were made of annual maximum depths of snow on the ground at 200 stations in Canada for the period 1941-59. An extreme value distribution was fitted to the observed maximum and then used to obtain the maximum snow depth for the 30 year period. These data were plotted and zones created to show maximum snow depths. Snow loading for buildings were computed for the zones including data form precipitation data on top of snow. The maximum snow load on roofs has been established tentatively as 80% of the maximum snow load on the ground.A formal discussion is presented by Marvin D. Magnuson, who exhibits mathematical and graphical procedures for solving extreme probability of meteorological factors to assist in extending values such as snow load data.
