TY - Generic T1 - Changes in snowmelt runoff caused by reforestation T2 - 29th Annual Western Snow Conference Y1 - 1961 A1 - Schneider, W.J. KW - Forest management, Runoff, Snowmelt AB - A study of runoff from a reforested drainage area in upper New York State where rehabilitated land was replanted to five species of conifers during a period of 25 years. A net decrease in total runoff is shown as well as a decrease in the size of the peak flow for most of the years of study. The reduction of peak discharges is attributed largely to the delayed melting of that portion of the snowpack which is not protected by forest cover, where 58% of the watershed had not been replanted.Mr. Nedavia Bethlahmy presents a complete discussion of the paper, and indicates that the runoff pattern of the test basin had changed with time as compared to the control basin, also that the magnitude of peak flow had changed as much as 41 percent on the average.
