TY - Generic T1 - Further observations and tests on duraluminum samplers T2 - 5th Annual Western Interstate Snow Survey Conference Y1 - 1937 A1 - Church, J.E. KW - Duraluminum samplers, Snow sampler tests, Steel samplers AB - Tests of shellac-coated and uncoated duraluminum samplers under various conditions of snow depth and density, air and snow temperatures were conducted in the Reno, Nevada area. The ease of driving and retrieving the sampler, of removing the core and the conditions of the core were reported. It is concluded that an uncoated duraluminum is unsatisfactory, but with a heavy and uniform shellac coating it will drive as readily as the steel tube also having a coating of shellac, results with the two tubes were equal. It is suggested that laboratory studies be made of the relative conductivity of shellac as compared with duraluminum and steel and effect of heat conductivity on the adhesion of snow and ice to duraluminum and steel with and without shellac.
