KW - SNow sampler maintenance AB - Shellac coating can be removed from duraluminum snow sampler tubes by immersing in a tank of commercial denatured alcohol. The dipping tank recommended is 4 inch in diameter and 36 inches long, with a flat steel plate welded at the base. A tube with 2 or 3 coats of shellac will be cleaned in about 20 minutes; 8 to 10 coats requires 45-60 minutes for thorough shellac removal. The dipping tank can be used for shellacking snow sampler tubes by immersing in shellac diluted 4 parts of shellac to 1 part denatured alcohol.
