TY - Generic T1 - The use of data logging systems in snow hydrology T2 - 52nd Annual Western Snow Conference Y1 - 1984 A1 - Cundy, T.W. KW - Forested versus open, Meteorological data, Snowmelt modeling AB - Meteorological data were collected in an open and forested site for one month. Air temperature, relative humidity, windspeed and the solar radiation were recorded over 30 minute, 30 minute, 10 minute and 10 minute intervals, respectively. Daily averages were calculated by averaging the data recorded over these shorter time intervals. Regression analyses indicated that the relationships between the open and forested sites for these variables were independent of the averaging intervals used here. The implications of this result are discussed. A1 - Brooks, K.N. A1 - Sveum, D. KW - Forecasting, Reservoir regulation, Snowmelt, SSARR model AB - Accurate predictions of snowmelt runoff from high elevation watersheds are needed to properly regulate six multipurpose reservoirs on the main stem of the Missouri River. In order to improve snowmelt-runoff forecasts and thus reservoir operations, the SSARR model was calibrated and tested using the snow-band option on the Madison and Gallatin River Basins. The temperature-index method was used to compute melt. The model was calibrated on 8 years of daily streamflow data, selected randomly from a 14 year record. The remaining 6 years were used for verification. Computed and observed volumes, peak, and timing of peak charges were compared statistically. This study demonstrated that the prediction of streamflow volune forecasts can be improved with the use of the SSARR model.
