KW - Statistical methods, Water supply forecasting AB - Long-range water resources planning in the semi-arid Okanagan basin in British Columbia where there has been substantial water use development requires dependable analytical methods for estimating flows. A five kilometer grid square runoff model using temperature, precipitation, snow course and estimated evapotranspiration data was developed for the Canada-British Columbia Okanagan Basin Agreement, a comprehensive water resource study of the Canadian portion of the Okanagan River. The model was developed by incorporating two independent water balancetechniques into the grid square method to simulate snowmelt and runoff on a mean monthly basis. The simulated runoff was compared with observed runoff for the total Okanagan basin and four major sub-basins. Reasonably accurate mean monthly runoff estimates were obtained.
