TY - Generic T1 - Long range weather forecasting T2 - 22nd Annual Western Snow Conference Y1 - 1954 A1 - Van Ornum, D.G. KW - Weather forecasting long range AB - Upper air current circulation at the 700 m.b. surface are studied on a hemispheric basis between the 35o and 65o north latitude parallels toward a solution of high and low pressure cells occurring over land surfaces. Effects of mountain ranges and desert temperatures to upper air current ridges and troughs are explored. Use is made of Polar Weather Charts of the Northern Hemisphere for plotting weather data from world round stations received from many countries. Results of the study are shown on graphs and is discussed in the text.In discussion, Mr. Charles Pennypacker Smith points out the value of Mr. Ornum's conception of considering the upper air currents as similar to moving water in a river, and confined between banks, is most worthwhile and is a step forward in understanding the movements of storm cells.
