TY - Generic T1 - Further improvement of snow survey apparatus T2 - 5th Annual Western Interstate Snow Survey Conference Y1 - 1937 A1 - Church, J.E. A1 - Marr, J.C. KW - Snow survey equipment AB - The general improvements sought for in snow survey apparatus are simplicity, universality and durability. The new dur-aluminum sampler is subject to snow adhesion which creates difficulties in obtaining a full core sample. Comparative test on steel and dur-aluminum samples were scheduled for the winter. Some of the improvements reported include the hardening of dur-aluminum surfaces of samplers, removable cutters, introduction of variable lengths of sampler sections. Minor corrective measures have effected to spring balances, but further improvements are indicated. An electric weighing scale for snow samplers has been designed but has not been tested. Comments on equipment, by Harold Conkling are included, calling to the spanner wrenches, and driving wrench, and threads of the couplings where seizure of like metals cause trouble, especially soft dur-aluminum.
