Abstract

The development and operation of a research project developed by the Wyoming Water Resources Research Institute under contract with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is described. Preliminary information on precipitation data, statistical analysis, snow drift profiles, and wind characteristics are presented. The data shows that there is a distinct possibility of shielding precipitation gages from the adverse effects of wind by using artificial barriers (snow fences).
