Abstract

The Soil Conservation Service is issuing Section 22 entitled ‘Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasting’ of the SCS National Engineering Handbook. Section 22 provides detailed information on many aspects of snow surveys and water supply forecasting. It will be useful not only for specialists in this field but also for scholars and students because it is a compilation of information not previously available in a single publication. It is available from U.S. Government Printing Office.Section 22 is divided into nine chapters. Major topics are; Data Collection for Water Supply Forecasting, Telemetry in Data Collection, Travel to Collect Data, Data Processing, Water Supply Forecasting, and Maintenance of Installations and Equipment.Section 22 is the first comprehensive text on snow surveys and water supply forecasting since Dr. J.E. Church introduced modern snow survey techniques at Mt. Rose, Nev., in 1904 to 1910.
