Abstract

Metrication of British Columbia snow survey operations began with the Summary of Snow Survey Measurements 1935-75, and the Snow Survey Bulletin published in metric since 1976. Field operations for the plans for equipment changeover were devised. This paper describes the planning and implementation of conversion to complete field operations in metric. Production of metric field notes and new Sampling Guide is discussed. The program of equipment modification, inluding re-marking the snow tubes by our own staff is explained, including a description of costs and logistics of the operation. The question of sampling tube cutter testing as it relates to metrication is considered, as well as the future of equipment design.
