Abstract

A review of mathematical procedures used developing forecasting formulas and procedures from 1951 through 1956, is presented. Procedures are shown to follow an approach to solve the 'water budget' equation of stream outflow from a river basin is equal to the inflow minus the changes in storage. This general formula is expanded to include 12 of the variables listed for a water year forecast and 13 of the variables listed for an April-September runoff period forecast. The snowpack data is added. A discussion of the factors is indicated in the text.An annotated bibliography is included of 23 technical papers dealing with water supply forecasting.
