Abstract | A resume of research studies dealing with drifting snow is presented with emphasis on the techniques of model design with materials scaled down to simulate blowing snow for wind tunnel studies. Commercial borax was found to fit closely the design specifications. Wind velocities up to 100 knots were used. Drifting patterns were studied and compared with similar life sized structures now being used in the snow covered wind blown areas of the Greenland Ice Cap. |
