Abstract | Varying winter wind velocities provide an evaporation index of Wyoming's wind-swept mountain snowpack. Wind movement at the 700 millibar level was obtained from up-wind Weather Bureau stations and is used as an added independent variable together with April 1 snow survey data, soil moisture and June precipitation, to develop a streamflow forecasting procedure. A series of 16 graphs illustrate the procedure. In discussion Mr. R.M. Sensintaffar points out the successful use of this wind evaporation index in forecasting the inflow to Pathfinder Reservoir on the North Platte River, Wyoming. Five tables show the array of data and also evaporation data for the reservoir surface. |
