Abstract | A new approach to streamflow forecasting is presented by taking into consideration the differences in characteristics of the winter's snowpack in the particular basin. Instead of using one formula for all years, the new scheme takes into consideration the relation of the high elevation snow in respect to the low elevation snow water content on a ratio basis. A formula based on average or best fit conditions may not be best for a particular year. The procedure differentiates on an objective criteria so as to use formula developed from years to fit the specific characteristics of the winter at hand. Several formulas may be needed to meet the conditions of a single basin. |
