Abstract | A discussion of procedures used to lower the temperature of the water in the Columbia River below Grand Coulee Dam by releasing water from lower, cooler levels of the reservoir. This process improves the economics of using the cool water for downstream plants and also improves the fish habitat during the warm months of the year. Graphical analysis of thermoclines of the reservoir waters above the dam makes possible this operation. |
