Abstract

Slab avalanches experienced at Berthoud Pass, Colorado are described and classified into categories. Weather factors involved in the formation of slab avalanches are delineated. Avalanche information and causal factors are listed in tables together with text narration. Wind velocity and persistence during and after snowfall is shown to be the most important factor involved.
