Abstract | A summary of the various procedures of measuring the snow water equivalent is present; the standard rain gage; the wide mouth rain gage; standard snow survey sampling tubes; large diameter Prairie sampler; shielded storage precipitation gages; radio-active snow gage; pressure pillow and pressure platform. All types are described and the various accuracy, advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Quotations are presented from the several references. The sharpness of the steel cutter on the standard snow survey sampling tube is apparently the most efficient way to increase the accuracy of measuring snow water equivalent. |
