Abstract

A description of the Corps of Army Engineers flood warning communication system, is presented, dealing with the river systems through the central states watersheds feeding into the Mississippi River and tributaries. Frequency modulation and ultra high frequency stations have been installed at river reporting and central collection stations along the Mississippi River and tributaries. Such a dual system affords complete coverage during disaster from rain and snowmelt conditions. this system is the backbone of the flood warning system for water management procedures for operating the many multi-purpose reservoirs and water control features along the river system. A similar system established throughout the northeastern states is described and exhibited in schematic system and map location of reporting stations.
