Abstract | Masonite strips, 2 x 6 inches in size, were tested to evaluate masonite boards as snow course markers. A strip submerged in water for 30 days increased approximately 0.6 inches in thickness but regained normal thickness upon drying. It is concluded that masonite board painted with an enamel base and a liberal coat of linseed oil on the reverse side will provide satisfactory use for more than 20 years exposure in the mountains where wet and cold conditions exist. This material is light in weight and the printing will not be spoiled by rifle bullets as experienced with the metal and baked enamel signs. |
