Abstract | Condensation nuclei as condensation centers for the formation of cloud droplets. An automatic recording, condensation nuclei is used to detect the extreme variability in concentration of such nuclei. The seeding of clear air, supersaturated with respect to ice, with suitable nuclei causes the formation of ice crystals large enough to have a falling velocity within less than 1 minute after seeding. Various techniques of seeding stratus or cumulus clouds, using dry ice or silver iodide are described. Accounts of actual aerological seeding experiments made, and results obtained are indicated. |
