Abstract

The percentage system, normals, and precipitation versus runoff are discussed with reference to snow surveys in the Yakima River Basin, Washington. The analysis considers only the period of 1908-09 - 1936-37 for 5 stations, which though covering but a small part of the complete Yakima basin, are at the headwaters and give a good indication of probabilities farther downstream. The methods of collecting the data are explained and the data are interpreted. Data on precipitation, the relation of precipitation and runoff in percent of normal, and runoff in acre-ft., of the Yakima River at the Cle Elum gage are tabulated. April-July runoff; Dec.-March precipitation; and April-June precipitation are graphed as percent of normal for 1908-09 and 1936-37.
