Abstract

The Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC), inaugurated in 1986 and located at the Desert Research Institute (a part of the University of Nevada System), is one of six which serve the contiguous United States. The area covered by WRCC consists of the eleven western states. Data are also available from Alaska and Hawaii. The center acts to fill several functions at the regional level: a) Maintain historical and current regional databases. These include those of NOAA and of other agencies. b) Disseminate and interpret original and manipulated data and information for users. c) Improve cooperation and coordination among governmental and private organizations of climate services at state, regional and national levels. d) Perform research on problems of applied climatology and meteorology.
