Abstract

The snow hydrology-forest harvesting interface is examined from the perspective of forest land managers who must make decisions on timber harvesting in watersheds used for community water supply. Particular reference is made to the problems encountered and the land management context in southeastern B.C. The background knowledge, guidelines, and analysis methodologies currently in use are briefly summarized. The gaps between theory and application are examined by addressing questions related to the topics of peak flows, water yield, and low flows that have arisen during discussions with land managers.
