Abstract

For the past four winters, the pH of surface snow has been measured at many snow courses in western Montana in conjunction with regularly scheduled snow surveys. This paper describes the field procedures used to obtain pH values and it summarizes year to year variation in pH and the possible sources for the acidic snow.
