Abstract

The improvement in our ability to estimate streamflow in Western Montana watersheds has paralleled the expansion and refinements of the co-operative snow survey. We have urgent and growing needs for the accurate inventory of our State's water resource.Existing methodologies are reviewed and their limitations discussed. Two additional methodologies have been adapted for our use. The first identifies 'homogeneous' regions of hydrologic character, the second employs the intuitive relationships between discharge and channel geometry. Model sensitivities and sources of error are discussed.
