Virtual Attendance

Registration links will be sent to those that registered for virtual attendance a week before the Conference.  All ORAL presentation slides (in-person presenters) and pre-recorded presentations (virtual presenters) must be uploaded by end of business Friday April 15^th to the link previously provided.

Conference Covid-19 Protocols

Western Snow Conference requires all attendees to be fully vaccinated according to current CDC guidelines.  Proof of vaccination (vaccination card or photo) is required at check in.  Use of masks is recommended but optional.  Individuals who suspect Covid exposure within 7-10 days prior to conference should test before attendance.  Please direct any questions to westernsnowconference@gmail.com.

Lodging

Salt Lake City has excellent public transportation, including a convenient light rail (TRAX) that runs from the airport to many locations, including campus. 

• The conference is at the University of Utah Guest House.
• There are numerous other lodging options in downtown Salt Lake City and around campus. We encourage using public transportation to get to campus, parking will be limited. 
• If you are staying off campus and taking TRAX to the conference, take the Red Line and get off at the Ft. Douglas stop. Walk over the large white bridge to the other side of the street and turn left on Fort Douglas Blvd to get to the Guest House (110 Fort Douglas Blvd). 
• If you are driving to campus, you can park at the Guest House parking lot for free. Anywhere else on campus is paid parking.

Short Course

• "Introduction to Colorado River Basin Forecast Center Forecasting Methods and Products"  The short course will walk participants through the Colorado Basin River Forecast Center’s (CBRFC) forecasting methods and products. We will discuss assumptions in a temperature index model (Snow17), explain the Ensemble Streamflow Prediction system, and review projects that the CBRFC is engaging in to improve forecasts. We will wrap up highlighting a collaboration between the University of Utah and CBRFC involving improved albedo methods in physically-based distributed modeling.

Technical Tour

• A visit to the Brighton SNOTEL site at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon at Brighton Ski Resort. The tour will be led by the Utah Snow Survey, and will include an explanation of the SNOTEL sensors, and an opportunity to practice snow depth and water equivalent sampling.
