| Abstract | A snowmelt lysimeter employing a moving cylinder to isolate test snowpacks from surrounding snow has been constructed for detailed study of effects of evaporation suppressants and albedo modifiers upon snowpack properties and melt rate under natural conditions. Data will be applied to an existing mathematical model of the snow melting process in order to optimize snowpack management. Initial tests are currently being made, and measurement techniquew and operating procedures are being refined. |
