Abstract | This paper describes the installation of snow creep measuring devices along the Snettisham transmission line in southeast Alaska near Juneau. The investigation was undertaken to determine the effects of snow creep pressure on transmission line towers after several towers had failed. Information was gathered on snow creep, depth, density, and on other environmental parameters including wind velocity, direction, and duration. This information was utilized in the analysis of the transmission tower failures and was also essential to the determination of design criteria for future transmission line construction. |
