Abstract

The development of better means of obtaining a complete seasons record of snow water equivalent of the snowpack from beginning of snowfall through winter and snow melt in the spring is described and illustrated. Not only is this record graphically produced at the site of measurement, but is automatically telemetered to the office and in computer symbols and recorded on tape. The pressure pillow is described and compared with a weighing storage precipitation gage. New advanced methods of the electronic circuitry from the transducers to the transmission components are discussed. The change of frequency method is matched with standard procedures. The needs of this continuous flow of data from the mountains to the forecasting office is discussed with emphasis on water management and flood control.
