Abstract

Since the SNOTEL system acquires daily readings instead of the average six winter season readings, the increased volume of data was very difficult to handle using existing techniques. SNOTEL data analysis routines needed to be modernized to manage the large quantities of SNOTEL data. To address this need, SCS decided to develop a micro-comuter graphics software package for the data manager's use. This package provides the user with the ability to download the data from SNOTEL, file the data, edit, graphically display the data, and upload the edits to SNOTEL. This paper discusses the development of this graphics package including a description of the functions, the problems encountered during development, and the uses being made of this package.
