Abstract | The author presents a manager's view of the major issues and challenges affecting interagency coordination in water supply forecasting. The impact of recent initiatives in government reorganization, and the instruction to phase out snow surveys and water supply forecasting in the Soil Conservation Service are discussed as they might affect interagency coordination. The evaluation and use of water supply forecasts are described before a discussion of past efforts asnd progress in interagency coordination. The impact of new technology applications on interagency coordination and some of the basic policy and operational questions for achieving desired ojectives are discussed as they relate to the snow telemetry (SNOTEL) system of the Soil Conservation Service. |
