Abstract

Since 1970 there have been several snowpillows in operation in Alberta. Some are located in the plains area (shallow snowpacks) and others in the east slopes of the Rockies (deeper snowpacks). These pillows have provided suitable data during the active snowmelt seasons. This paper analyses that data. It was found that the measured snowmelt quantities from the snowpillow data compared favourably with that computed from the theoretical snowmelt equation developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (1960).
